It was a beautiful March day starting off a little cool but warming up nicely for all of the activities planned at Ray Price Harley-Davidson on March 4th. The day started off with many vendors setting up to sell their products including Hog Trough motorcycle cup holders and Lady Hawke Jewelry and Fashions. The UNC REX Blood Mobile started siphoning at 9am and the dozen BBQ cookers were in full swing with their butts on the grill. The lady’s themed day started off with the registration for the Lady’s Only Bike Show sponsored by The Garage at Ray Price and there were 24 fabulous entries. Handling the registration was Rebecca Richardson, Ray and Jean Price’s granddaughter. And greeting the registrants were land speed racer, Jody Perewitz and Harley stunt rider, Christina Billings, both are sponsored riders of Ray Price Harley-Davidson. Throughout the day, Jody and Christina had the opportunity to tell their riding stories to a crowd of enthusiasts and answered questions about how they got started in the male-dominated world of motorcycle riding.
LaureNicole kicked of her rockin’ music set at 11am while the emcee, Tim O’Connell, kept the crowd engaged with announcements of everything that was happening inside and out. He introduced the judges who would be tasting 12 differently prepared bbq dishes. Nearly a thousand people welcomed Jerry Hart of the BBQ Brothers, Sammy Stephens from Sammy’s Tap & Grill, Meg Smigleiska -food blogger of https://www.meghereandthere.com/ and our special guest, Jody Perewitz. The variety of the bbq was many, with each team putting their own twist on the cooked pig.
As the familiar rock music played and the roaring stunt bike smoked, hundreds of people filled the street, sampling each team’s creation with excitement and intrigue. People could be heard touting their favorite team to others while they consumed the tasty samples from each grill. Time was drawing near for them to cast their votes.
When the votes were tallied, the judges chose site #11, The Clubhouse Grill for First Place, site # 2, Dirty Dave’s for Second Place and site #10, Moon Swiners for Third Place. The People’s Choice went to site #10, Moon Swiners. Over $2800 was raised for the Ride for Kids and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
The Bike Show standings were: First Place #11, Sportster, Gretchen Sutton, Second Place #12 Softail Slim, Zoe Rayshell, Third Place #14 Dyna FXD, Jonni Meek.
